Automotive Steering Acoustic Test Room
A semi anechoic test room for automotive steering systems, where absorptive walls meet a vibration isolated floor for component noise and buzz squeak rattle testing.
Project Highlights
- Semi anechoic free field design
- Vibration isolated base to suppress structure noise
- Fits test rigs and in line testing
The faint noise and rattle that a steering system makes while it works has a direct effect on how the whole car feels. We built the customer a semi anechoic test room, with absorptive modules on the walls and ceiling to create free field conditions, while the floor keeps a reflective surface so the test rig and the assembly under test can sit on it.
A vibration isolated base and acoustic doors and windows bring outside vibration and noise down to a very low level, so engineers can clearly separate the motor noise, the gear mesh and any structural rattle in the steering mechanism, and then carry out both objective measurement and subjective evaluation.
